Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada recommend that every towed water sport coach at the initiation level participates in a two day 'Learn To' Instructor clinic.
The clinic will teach each coach to:
What do I get?
When coaches sign up for a 'Learn To' Instructor clinic they will receive a manual that consists of a Coach Workbook, and a Tactical Manual. This coaching manual was developed in a manner that allows coaches to demonstrate competency while following a set path.
Coaches will be lead through the 2 day session by trained Learning Facilitators who will get the coaches to 'think on their feet', and work as a group to come up with answers. The program is driven by a hands-on approach to learning, and the facilitators are the guides who motivate and help the coaches come to the appropriate answer.
A key asset to the "Learn To' Instructor program is the fact that coaches get exposure to four towed water sport disciplines: waterski, wakeboard, barefoot, and adaptive waterskiing. Instructors learn how to teach and introduce all 4 disciplines to beginners.
Where does 'Learn To' fit in the old Level system?
This new program replaces WSWC Level 1 Technical, Theory, and Practical. Individuals who are interested in becoming trained as a coach at the initiation stage can now do so in one weekend without having to do the Practical and Theory components on top of that. It is a "one stop shop" as these components are built into the new program.
At the end of this clinic, coaches achieve the status of "NCCP TRAINED" "Learn To" instructor.
